Many aspects of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), including characteristics of African children with ASDs, are not known because of non-availability of large-scale epidemiological studies. For example, the average age at first presentation of African children with ASDs to orthodox clinical practice and their symptoms at presentation relating to expressive language ability, have not been examined.
